Changes to road tax from 2018.
A NEW SYSTEM for calculating car registration fees, which will come into force in 2018, is being developed by a committee of the Ministry of Finance, with the aim of making them more proportional. They will be calculated by applying algorithms and the basic parameters will be the age, value, emissions and cubic centimetres of each vehicle.
The changes in the traffic tax were announced by the Deputy Minister of Finance Kat. Papanatsiou, speaking to the radio station "In red" said that with algorithms that will include the age, value, emissions and cubic meters will give a more proportional result in traffic fees than today.
"Our expectation is for this to be completed as quickly as possible, so that the market knows how it will move in relation to the car," the Deputy Minister of Finance noted, adding that the new framework for registration fees seeks "some to get the plates back" for vehicles that in previous years chose to immobilize because of the high cost.
Regarding the introduction of POS and the use of plastic money and electronic transactions for the "building up" of the tax-free amount, Mrs.Papanaksiou said that "the first group of professionals will be required to have these electronic payment possibilities by June 30."

On the issue of commissions imposed by the banks, the Deputy Minister said that "the government is in consultation with the banks", adding that the commissions "have been greatly reduced compared to the previous period, while the more the use of plastic money is extended, the lower the commission will be.
He also said that the coverage of the limit of spending through plastic money for building the tax-free allowance is not affected by the phased mandatory installation of POS in businesses and professionals, as it can be easily achieved for all taxpayers based on the current data in transactions and the wide range of spending that will be counted for the tax-free allowance. Few expenses are excluded: rent, loan repayments, road taxes, purchases of real estate, cars, yachts, payment of taxes, purchases of shares
Finally, the Deputy Minister left open the possibility of corrective interventions in this year's ENFIA, saying that "we will see which categories we can burden less."
